These are quiet engines if anything like euro 4 which i have, i had a problem with a spurious prv part fitted and when it finally gave in and proper ford one was fitted the extra power and better fuel consumption was like a remap had been doneandz327 wrote:What horse powerstevemknight wrote:i dont know if any one of you can help but i am running out of ideas trying to fix my 2013 2.2 rwd euro 5 mk7 .i have owned the van for a few months and when i bought it it had problems and would hardly run. this turned out to be bad connections between the injectors and plugs(plugs replaced) this had been caused by someone metering out the loom to find a fault which was an injector i know this because with the van came a repair bill with details of a repair including checking loom and replacing injectors.the van has always sounded flat like the timing is retarded and is very bad on fuel (about 22 at 3 tons gross ) .the van does now not produce any fault codes at all.the first thing i did to try and rectify it was fit a new turbo actuator because at the time it would occasionally throw a code for actuator position .fitting a new actuator made no difference.i have since replaced the egr valve with a brand new o.e. one .fuel rail pressure sensor .removed timing cover to check cam chain and timing .substituted both the air flow meter and map sensor from another euro 5 of same year this made no difference . the van has been to ford in the last month for piston software update this made no difference other than it now dosen't stall as easy. and finally i have replaced all four injectors and coded them and this has slightly improved the power. the underlying problem seems to be that the engine sounds very quiet almost petrol like up to about 3000 rpm when it does start to develop some diesel noise but nowhere near as much as it it should. the only thing i can think to do next is to remove the gearbox and check that the tdc timing notch is exactly right . i do not know if it has had a replacement flywheel . the van is now at 100k. sorry for the very long post .
Have you checked the turbo impeller wear or tightness, maybe yours is one of the ones that sufferd oil pump failure in the past and had ran turbo dry of oil, as well as other parts but maybe in repairs to engine the turbo was overlookedstevemknight wrote:thanks . i have already spoke to martyn who suggested a few things to try . this van is very weird the way that when you rev it up its like a tuned two stroke the way that it bogs at the bottom end with loads of inlet noise then it takes of after a second or two.
Altransit wrote:The point to my tale is: Is it possible that the timing on yours is retarded, sapping the power, and making the engine quieter than normal Just a theory, not sure if it even relates to a modern diesel, or even if it will run like this.

Not possible on a common rail machine..! Advancing the pump does nowt..!

Checking the timing chain wouldn't do any harm
He already has muckerbambi mk 1 wrote:knobby1 wrote:Altransit wrote:The point to my tale is: Is it possible that the timing on yours is retarded, sapping the power, and making the engine quieter than normal Just a theory, not sure if it even relates to a modern diesel, or even if it will run like this.

Did you try changing tensioner , in case it's loosing pressure and knocking timing out when chain comes under load, maybe oil pressure problemstevemknight wrote:had the front off the van a few weeks ago to check the cam chain tensioner and timing and it was spot on much to my disapointment .
