As in I hear a lot of people describing their van as say 51 plate or 68 plate. Is this something only applicable to a certain country? Can't seem to find any info about this.

Number is the year it was registered but can be depicted as a letter on older ,and the plate is just people referring to what year it says on the REGISTRATION PLATE / number PLATEnznikin wrote:As in I hear a lot of people describing their van as say 51 plate or 68 plate. But it would be so much simpler if the "year" ran from 1st Jan - 31st December, as it did when registration suffix letters started in 1963

Ah I see, this is the UK plate format. In NZ we do not follow this format.
Or if the letter was at the start or the end of reg numberPunto443 wrote:Used to be even harder with Y plates etc!
You’d have to try and remember the year that the letter corresponded too
