Pretty sure it's the power steering belt, looks loose and is making a small knocking noise. Am I OK to drive it tomorrow? need to get it to a mate I'm no mechanic, if it snaps will it likely do damage? How much of a job is it replace?
It's an 03 swb fwd 2l mk6
Cheers
In Mk6 FWD steering pomp is mounted on water cooling pomp - both are powered by the same belt.
If steering pomp doesn't work (because of broken belt), engine is not cooled, because water pomp also doesn't work.
So - don't drive van
(maybe only one minute, if you must move it for very short distance), because of the certainty of damage engine (overhiting).
For good mechanic it is 20 minutes - half an hour of work. It can be fixed on the street only with opened bonnet.
