A quick first check is to replace the USB cable (standards printer cable) as they seem to break.
V86 is best for native install with licence patch, then v91 for 3 day trial but after that it is a bit more tricky to do and also old vcm2 have the game chips which only work till v98 ish(no idea when they got upgraded probably 2 years ago at a fires but if your came with a CD. Later then should be ok).
You can also buy a modified elm 327 dongle and free download for scan which should help you.

Hi loot
Yeah it came with v91 v101.1/v101.2/v101.3 on the disc. I installed it on my win 10 laptop using a virtual machine and it worked fine. I tried to use it again recently and forgot to change the date back to 1/1/16 before I opened it so invalidated the 3 day trial
I reinstalled it all which is a pain but had problems ever since. When I couldn’t get it to reconnect I thought ids was the issue so paid for an install of ids108 to be activated by them on an old windows 7 laptop which I’m going to use solely for diagnostics whenever I need it. This is installed and starts up but wouldn’t connect to the pcm in either my ‘09 or ‘12 plate vans.
The guy spent a couple of hours on team viewer but couldn’t get it work. As a check I did the bare minimum on a virtual machine on my win 10 laptop and just installed the 3 day trial of ids v91 that came with the vcm on the disc included. It still wouldn’t connect to the pcm so reset the vcm and updated it but nothing.
I need to contact obdtools.co.uk who supplied it really but been that busy with work I haven’t had the chance yet. Sounds like it may be worth trying this alternative program to see if that works also
What’s an ELM ? Lol
