I have a vcm2 which I bought from one of the obdtools site in November last year. I used it a few times and it worked fine.

I tried it again last week and all the lights seem to come on in the right sequences and you can update it through ids and ids communicates with it fine but it won’t connect to the pcm in either of my 2 vans. Paid for ids 109 to be installed over team viewer and the guy spent ages updating and getting me to rest the vcm for him but it still won’t connect.

Installed ids v91 again on a fresh install of xp on a different laptop then reset and updated the vcm software to try it this way but still wouldn’t connect..

Any ideas? I’ll try the chat help on the obdtools website later on also as it may need to go back

Appreciate any help

Also the reason I want to get it working again is my 12 plate 2.2 125ps has developed a bad flat spot around 3k revs if you floor it sometimes. On 2 occasions the esp light and limp mode have came in, other times I’ve had the mil light come up.

Van drives fine most of the time, I had it remapped to 185ps ages ago so can’t calibrate it or update the software even when I get ids up and running but I’d like to check the live data of the maf and see if any codes are still on.

Changed the map sensor just in case as it was only £30, seems to drive a bit better since that

Hi was it originally working on that year vehicle? What cd/software came with the vcm?
A quick first check is to replace the USB cable (standards printer cable) as they seem to break.

V86 is best for native install with licence patch, then v91 for 3 day trial but after that it is a bit more tricky to do and also old vcm2 have the game chips which only work till v98 ish(no idea when they got upgraded probably 2 years ago at a fires but if your came with a CD. Later then should be ok).

You can also buy a modified elm 327 dongle and free download for scan which should help you.

Yep, Forscan and a modified ELM is much more user friendly and can do 95% of IDS functions...I've gone off using the VCM-II & IDS of late....although, strangely mine still works :?

Hi loot

Yeah it came with v91 v101.1/v101.2/v101.3 on the disc. I installed it on my win 10 laptop using a virtual machine and it worked fine. I tried to use it again recently and forgot to change the date back to 1/1/16 before I opened it so invalidated the 3 day trial

I reinstalled it all which is a pain but had problems ever since. When I couldn’t get it to reconnect I thought ids was the issue so paid for an install of ids108 to be activated by them on an old windows 7 laptop which I’m going to use solely for diagnostics whenever I need it. This is installed and starts up but wouldn’t connect to the pcm in either my ‘09 or ‘12 plate vans.

The guy spent a couple of hours on team viewer but couldn’t get it work. As a check I did the bare minimum on a virtual machine on my win 10 laptop and just installed the 3 day trial of ids v91 that came with the vcm on the disc included. It still wouldn’t connect to the pcm so reset the vcm and updated it but nothing.

I need to contact obdtools.co.uk who supplied it really but been that busy with work I haven’t had the chance yet. Sounds like it may be worth trying this alternative program to see if that works also

What’s an ELM ? Lol

As an update on this I bought a maf anyway to try it and it’s made a big difference, van seems to go a lot better.

The air filter was soaking wet when I last changed it a couple of months back, turns out there was a recall for an issue with the little filter housing on top of the air filter letting water in. Ford fixed it free as there was a recall on my vehicle for it. It’s probably this that knacked my maf sensor as there was visible corrosion on the small element bit.

Still want my diagnostics up and running though!

Fit a new usb cable mate they are crap the ones that come with it, and don't yank the cables just wrap them loosely. :-)

Might not be that though.
