smartshift alert

Postby fumbduck » Fri Nov 21, 2008 10:20 am

Had a chime and 'Auto' warning light come on today.
Checked the users manual but that just says take it to your dealer.
Does anyone know what that would mean?

You sure it's not 2.4?

You sure the bonnet is shut AND aligned when shut :?:
Drivers door shut :?:
Fluid level ok :?:

Apart from the bleeping chime, what's happening :?: Is it refusing to engage gear :?:

Bonnet was shut and seems to align ok.
Drivers door was shut aswell when it happened but I do have an issue with my central locking not wanting to lock the front cabin (locks when activated but then immediately unlocks again) Surely that would not be related to the "auto" warning light?
Checked fluid level which seems ok.
The warning chime and light only happened once a couple of days ago when I left my brothers place. It had been parked there for the day in his street which is reasonably steep. Not sure if that had anything to do with it but the alarm sounded fairly soon after driving off and then once more after I drove around the block. Haven't heard or seen it come on since and there are no other symptoms. It engages and shifts fine.
I've only had this van a couple of weeks and I love it. It shits all over the T4 Transporter I had.

Yes because it wont work if the door or bonnet is open.

ok tried reading the OBD codes with my Geniscan reader but kept coming up with "error" so got a mate who's an auto electrician to read it for me and the good news is there are no errors at all.
So as soon as the weather is clear I'll go and have another good look at these door locks.
As for the bonnet, where is the contact that registers whether it's shut or not? Is it the springloaded prong next to the lock?

The switch makes contact with the nearside bonnet hinge, you should see the switch up high on the bulkhead.

Thanks again MrMPuk
Well in the mean time my central locking issue has been sorted (broken wire in rear door) :)
I still keep getting a warning chime and the 'auto' light comes on every now and then.
It doesn't seem to come on all the time but at random.
Fluid level is fine, have had the OBD read by an auto electrician and there were no codes reported at all
There seem to be no other symptoms really
Maybe with the exception of a 'slightly rough' shift back to first gear when coming to a stop. (but that could be normal)
Does anyone have a list of all possible causes that could set the warning light to come on?
I can usually stop the engine and restart to make it go away. (until it surfaces again)

There is a TSB i believe out for these, which involves a re-program for the t.c.m and replacement of module if not cured.

There`s a good chance a later calibration will be available if it`s not been done recently, this is a dealer thing really tho & takes AGES to download :(

Some other diagnostics available also & heard something about having to bleed auto-clutch slave unit as it gets air in it?

Harsh shift into 1st prob. needs all parameters re-learning......

Not much good to say about Durashift`s to be honest, they are rare..........but they`re problems aren`t :(
