Speaker wires + -

Postby rocco-jocco » Sun Feb 07, 2010 12:12 pm

Morning all, im just fitting some new Kenwood speakers to my 05 transit but im a little confused as to what colour wire leading to the original speakers would be the positve and the negative?
The wires are both the same colours on the left and right hand side of the van.... Grey with a red stripe and white with a red stripe. Does anyone know which color wire is the + and which is the -??
Thanks in advance

Connect them up with the stripe to the +, then listen to them, change the + & - on one side and listen again, the bass will be better when you have them wired correctly. Let your ears decide the correct way to wire them.

Red is Always negative, but for positive is can be blue, green or black, depending on Manufacturer.

Not when it comes to speakers they are not, i remember in our old transit they were funny colours, green and grey i think. The main colours off the battery were red, black and yellow. You need to get the red and yelloe the right way round as the yellow is the battery back up and you will find you keep losing your settings otherwise.

I Missed a Part Describing the two Colours, Hmm, I Would Guess that the Grey & Red Is Negative, and White & Red is Positive.
Only one way to find out for sure. I Am just about to leave for a call for an lady who cant get her hover to start

hahaha, you wont do any damage with the speaker wires, if your not sure just try them. As long as you know which ones go to battery you're ok.

As long as you wire them both the same it dosent matter :) Bass will be in full effect with both the same regardless of overall polarity, the only difference is phase which is pretty well impossible to discern with your ears, its the difference between listening to a crash cymbal from above Vs below for example.....

This applies only to the amplifier outputs + and - only, all other wiring be carefull!

Since when has Red been negative, in a DC circuit Red is always Positive and Black is always negative. Prior to a couple of years ago the same applied to AC as well Red was live and black was neutral.

And I am an Electrician.......really.

Incidentally, to test the speakers use an AAA 1.5v battery, connect it across the speaker cable, if the speaker moves in then you have the live cable connected to the negative on the battery, cross the connections and when the speaker moves out you have it connected properly, that will identify your pos and neg for the speaker cable.
GREAT BRITAIN LOVE IT OR LEAVE IT.

Hi,

I just changed the front speakers on 2007 Ford Transit connect.

At the speaker end (both left and right), I have a white wire and a light blue wire (no stripes).

any help on identifying + and - would be much appreciated!

doesn't make any difference with speakers as long as both speakers are wired the same if you change the polarity on one side that will put the speakers out of phase and you will notice poor bass response no damage will be caused by incorrect wiring just poor sound.
