Hi all,

Thanks for all the advice. Hoping this week to be able to adjust the valve clearances and cam belt tension due to it having now covered 10k & will be settling down. Then most importantly advance the pump timing as Andy G excellently advised & adjust the two fuel screws as Alanwh discribed.

you shouldn't have to check the tension, as it should have the later automatic tensioner easy job to time though, it will take you longer taking the timing belt cover off
The cam duration is longer on the turbo to let more air in, especially on the higher revs, thats why you need a later injection.
Time it by ear. you'll notice progressively the engine note getting harsher as the turbo whine disappears on throttle. You'll get to the familiar DI Bark towards the end of the slots as Andy says.

As far as I know you adjust your 145/6 pump until it smokes under load and back it off until you have the best balance between least smoke and most power (after the timing has been set )

"You need the bigger 686 pump, EITHER the 141, 145 OR 146. I have only used the 145"

I have adjusted the pump this afternoon to Alans spec. Need to use the truck for an hour in the morning then i shall be adjusting the pump timing

Ok i Timed it today as advised by Andy. Heres a few picks

Standard Di timing

Drill out.

Washer plate removed(just so you can see)

Pump moved clockwise.

All done.

Now it does sound crisper & has a little more go but i feel that it is still not right .
Maybe I do need the 145/6 pump & 100PS injectors. Will this give it 100PS though ?

Yep
Try and get a look at 100PS belt pully though as the slots in yours don't seem as long as mine, sure I was able to get more advance unless it's the pic, or I need new glasses

i've turned this pump up now to 3 on the overall & 2 on the mid range. it finaly has some grunt & a bit of smoke. Trouble now is i can' turn the tick over down enough so i believe this pump is realy not up to the job. I have ordered a 145/6 pump though. Also that advance on the timing has made it harder when cold to start ie it cranks over a few times rather then just starting instantly like befor. i supose i'm gettin there slowly(excuss the pun)

Yep sounds like it Jim,
The more you turn it up, the more it squeezes the injection timing.
Let us know when you get the pump as you can up the boost a bit too

Edit.. You'd need 100PS injectors tho

I will go for 100ps injectors as soon as i can aford 'em. Just spent a chunck on that pump & a nice stainless exhaust for me bike
