I'm trying my best to help a friend, and have been boxing with this problem now on and off for tree weeks!!
When I got my hands on it the diesel pump leaked from the shaft and the solenoids on the back. They have most likely been assembled with the black wire in between the housing and buckled the baseplate (picture one), old cam belt residue behind the plastic cover resulting in a almost ripped cam belt, the cam and pump timing was two teeth to early resulting in starter motor planet gear shredded two times when I tried to start it before i found the problem. And here is a top tip: The insides of a starter motor from a Ford Mondeo 94-96 (the 4 planet gears, plastic housing and axle) will fit the bigger starter motor with minor modding if anyone is interested.
Now to the problem:
The engine and car runs and sounds GREAT when cold, gets to 60-75 mph easy with a boost pressure of 0.8 bar (11 psi). When it comes up to working temperature it's almost like some evil thing pushes a secret button, and just like that it loses a lot of power and will only go 40-45 mph. There is no smoke or weird noises, no engine light. It's like the engine just doesn't get enough diesel somehow. When the engine is cold again it runs great again for about 5-6 minutes then loses almost all power again. I don't have any trouble starting the engine, it barely turns and starts at once, hot or cold.
I have tried to disconnect the vacuum hose to the egr valve so it don't close with same result, and the two different temperature sensors (on the cylinder head and on the air inlet right before the egr valve).
I have spent some time reading on this great forum and saw somewhere that if the engine lamp stays on after the engine start for about 1-2 seconds the ecu could be in limp on mode, is this correct ?
I haven't been able to connect it to a diagnostic to reed any fault codes yet. Any ideas of what this can be ?
Kind regards WildWere.
