Key fob battrie change transit 2006

Postby Eastwater » Sat Feb 25, 2012 9:58 pm

Hi there is there a way for me to change the battrie in my key fob without having to go to a ford dealer ?
I only have one key and the battrie is dead . I managed to get the fob open to revile the battrie and had it tested itvwas dead . I am unable to work out how to get it out to change it ,it looks like ford have put it in in such a way that Joe public cannot change it themselves .

Is there any way I can do it myself ?

Many thanks eastwater

If its the Blue key, then I dont think that you can change the battery, as they are the rechargable type, that charge when the key is in the ignition.......

Well I never so is any way of telling if it's a battrie problem ? Or if it's the central locking that's at fault .
Yes it's a blue fob . I am surprised you can recharge them

You could have a duff battery under your seat, the front one.

There was problems with some of the earlier blue fobs as they were faulty and didn't charge. You may be lucky and Ford may change it for you or you may have to bite the bullet and buy a new fob.

Do you have 2 batteries under you seat?

The rear battery starts the van and runs the hazzard lights.
The front battery does everything else.

I noticed my central looking wouldn't work one day and just opened the door with the key, I had my batteries tested and the front battery was not holding a charge, new battery fitted...... all ok.

Well this morning I am back at the place that's doing the conversion . They are checking the wires found one that had been hit but even after fixing that still no luck .
I had a look under the front seat yess there is a battrie I am hoping to find someone this morning thats got a testing machine to see if it's holding charge .

With the key fob I now don't think it's the battrie in it as I am able to press it a couple neters away from the van and it gives a toot of the horn and lights flash so me thinks if the battrie were dead in the fob it would do nothing when pressed a couple of meters from the van

Do you think that I an right in thinking this ?

Is it tooting the horn with all the doors closed, if so you have a problem with one of the doors or door wiring, as its sensing that a door is open

Thanks for all your help it's all fixed now .they found the fault a wire had been drilled through a wire when doing the insulating and the fuse had blown .

They were great it took them a couple of hours to sort that part and it's all better now I have now just got to glue the fob back together now

Thanks for all your replys

This could be the van battery at fault rather than the fob
I keep our spare keys in the office and I've seen them open a van after being sat in the drawer untouched for 3 years!
