Fuel tank size???

Postby motorman116 » Tue May 29, 2012 10:00 am

I thought that the Transit van had an 80 litre fuel tank, No heres my little problem........

I had 67 miles left in the tank..
My van is doing 27.87 miles to the gallon (working out between fill ups), so to my maths, if we round it off to a round figure (28) I should of had left just over 2 gallons ( 9 litres + a little more for the 11 miles) till empty, and yet I have just filled up and put in 79.12 litres fuel (£114.65  ), now work that one out ?????

My van a 2008 t280 mwb low roof limited spec has a 90 ltr tank, the van was heavily upgraded by the leasing company who leased it to a one man band that went bust after just 9 months which is when I bought it off them.
The ford techi was surprised when I told home I could get over 600 miles to a tank untill he looked underneath and said oh yes you have the extended range tank fitted, maybee you have one too ?.

or else the tank was filled right up in the filler neck..80 litre is with a air gap as well which is why you got 79 litre in the tank

Could well be 100 or 105 he just told me it was extended range and I assumed from reading the web this was 90 ltrs.
I never let it go much below quarter full and always get £120 to £130 pounds worth of fuel in it, sometimes if I'm going to France and I'm taking it easy at 60 mph the range can show 700 + but I've never done more than 600 + in reality from a tank before filling up again.
