New flywheel then a motor job!

Postby fordcounty » Sat Aug 11, 2012 5:32 am

2009 transit 230000kms 2.4 Diesel. I had a Reputable Ford Dealership fit a replacement Duo mass flywheel , but on the day i drove the van out the motor failed. After it was transported back to the workshop it was deemed to have broken two Inlet valve rockers. The theory is that somehow the timing has jumped a tooth,Valve met piston rockers and cam destroyed ,I had traveled 150kms since leaving the workshop. A coincidence or could they be related

it is a possibility due to the mileage of the engine when the flywheel bolts were done up it caused vibrations through the crankshaft and caused the timing chain to jump due to worn guides and a weak tensioner and therefore causing piston to valve contact and consequential rocker damage

Thanks taz,That was also my theory now all i have to do is convince the dealership.I don,t suppose you could point me to any ford documentation that warns of this possibility.

no m8 i dont think there is any to be honest, there is a technical service bulletin on chain rattle but thats only for 2000 shape transits not your shape, although there is no specific time to replace the chain it does wear and wears out the guides and gears but any ford dealer should be aware of this
