2008 2.4 running fault

Postby westyr1 » Wed May 22, 2013 8:03 pm

Hi
I have a 2008 transit 2.4 with a strange fault. It can drive fine for 2 or 3 weeks but then it faults and will barly run.
While it is faulting the milage left display is flashing like mad,it may tick over ok sometimes but as soon as you give it any throttle it misfires badly and the display flashes madly! On reading the codes with a delphi scanner the fault present at the time is an injector leak. i have not carried out a leak off test yet assuming that a faulty injector would not cause these dash problems.
Does any one have any leaders where to look, i am thinking chaffed wiring?
Thanks

have a 2008 115 . does the same thing but a milder form , just when it feels like. had a diagnostic ( no fault ). changed the egr valve , was clear for about 6 month, they reckon you need to change the egr valve every 50000 mile .

this is becoming a common fault on mk7s, the loom that comes from the pcm runs across the top of the n/s headlight and then drops down the side of the underbonnet fusebox and is secured to a metal plate by a plastic clip, follow the loom down and it go into a "U" loop that goes up into the engine, at that loop weve had water ingress problems into the loom and rotting wires, pull the loom up and take the plastic corrogated covering off and inspect the wires around the loop in the wiring and i bet there are green wires, the ones weve had rot are most commonly for the injectors causing running problems and dash displays to flash, done one a couple of weeks ago with the same problems

Looks like Neil found the issue, as he had it running poorly upon wriggling ecu plug it ran perfect, loose pin!

Oh and he also on the occasion when the problem occurred had a weirdly behaving display
