Glow plug light again

Postby Norfolkboy » Sun Feb 23, 2014 2:09 am

My Mk6 transit 350 TDCI was running ok but use to pink under acceleration, I had the van serviced about 3 weeks ago and was running fine and very sweet untill last Friday, after around 100 miles went into limp mode while accelerating in 3rd gear, will reset when the key is turned off and back on and will run if you stay below 2500 rpm. Replaced the fuel filter with a genuine ford item as was difficult to start but still goes in to limp mode. Van passed its MOT this week but is lumpy on tick over. Had codes read and shows Low fuel pressure under engine cranking and Fuel pressure High/low. I have removed the EGR valve and looks ok. The low fuel pressure I guess was when the filter was changed. its done 37000 miles so dont expect the fuel pump. any one got any ideas before it goes to the garage again.

Thanks Doug.

Sorry for the delay in replying but couldn't find the codes.
P1211 injector pressure higher/lower than desired.
P2291 Injector control pressure to low engine cranking.
P0251. Injector pump fuel metering control A
C1300 ABS pump motor circuit failure.

Any ideas ??

I had those exact codes when one injector was broke. A leak off test will probably confirm it.
For some reason i always get the abs pump code when plugging into transits even when theres no fault with it, so i'd probably ignore that one.

(yay, 100 posts :D i'll go back to lurking for another few years now lol )

Well just back from the garage, still showing 2codes P1211 and P0251. They changed the filter again and a slight improvement but not cured again. They suggest a prv but quoted £427 +vat to change it but won't guarantee it will fix it. Any one know where to buy one cheaper.

Many thanks.

Thanks for the reply, I must admit I had a diesel knock the other day which would indicate a sticky injector. Trouble is my local injection specialist lost his mechanic last week so will have to look elsewhere.

Van been in the garage today and the news was not good, needs a full set of injectors but because they have rust on them won't service exchange. Got to wait for them to be rebuilt and then see if it cures it, even so looking at the best part of £800 !.

Well, I picked the van up today and it's running like a dream. Ticks over so smooth and very responsive. Had all 4 injectors rebuilt new filter and new oil seals total cost £914. No cheap but very professional would not hesitate to recommend SMS in Gawcot Buckinghamshire.

He indicated that the wear in the injector was prob down to poor quality fuel, (Tesco) because it runs such high pressure doesn't take much to leak past the disc and back down the return, it's really important to get a proper diagnostic check down as I was told it could be the Fuel pump, the clutch, the prv or the injectors all of which is not cheap. Hope someone will find this info useful.
