Mk 6 steering column

Postby rikki19 » Sun Apr 13, 2014 2:45 am

Hi guys , Just wondering ...... is it an easy job to lower the steering column ? I need to pull out the instrument panel to access heater blower and resistor and the wheel is right in the way. Also , by reaching in thru the radio hole , I've tried to loosen the blower motor but can only turn it 1/4 " or so . Someone mentioned a plastic tab that needs bending back . Is that the one on top of the motor or is it further back near the resistor ? There's a plastic tab at 12 o'clock that feels like it will snap off if I pull any harder .

The Colomn is easily removed, it splits just above the floor on a splined shaft.

Just remember to mark it, so you don't end up with a squint wheel when it goes back together :D

Instrument cluster can be removed without removing the steering wheel, have changed many of these no problem. The "tab" on the motor is towards the back lower part about 4 oclcok, not the one at 12 oclcok. you just lift it away from the heater matrix slightly to allow the motor to rotate.

Thanks Andy , I have taken the instrument panel out before but to get reasonable access to the heater blower motor I'd ideally like to move the s/wheel as it's hard to work around it and can't get my arms thru it ......lol ... :? pity they didn't make them adjustable height .
