Fuel pump leaking

Vans just failed mot for fuel leak from the fuel pump.I took Van to a local Diesel specialist who quoted £1000 to supply and fit replacement pump.Van is an 2005 mk6 260 swb 85 with 92000 miles.Does this seem about right for the quote only as they said "not worth it on a van that age,and its a common fault".
Advice much appreciated.

COMMON on these vans leaks from the solenoid at the back of the pump you could buy a new solenoid but on that you could get a second hand one and reprogram to the van

but a re-con pump is only £585 plus vat plus labour £200 an odd quid

it depend on ya funds and how you love ya van

Ha! Ha! Yeh I do love the Van,its been a good one. But it is very corroded underneath and also required some welding doing for the Mot,which I would have been happy to do. However the price to fix the pump really due to its condition makes it not very realistic.

If the pump is leaking but working electronically, can't you get a pump and put your edc on it? Should keep the van going for a while longer shouldn't it? Plenty of pumps out there with duff edc i would of thought?
If so then you won't need to program it in as your edc would have the data already.
Not done it personally but have read stuff
