Handbrake Lever Handgrip Variations

Postby njgypm » Fri Apr 18, 2014 11:32 pm

I am a new member of the Forum and am trying to find out precisely how many different variations of shape and size of handbrake lever grips there have been during the lifetime of the entire range of Transits. I am referring to just the black plastic part you grab when you apply the handbrake.

Is it just the one effectively triangular section type?... or have there been different even minor variations during the evolution of the Transit over the years? I would appreciate it if anyone could let me know (ideally with the different part numbers) and, if so, with which model did each type come in. I thought that before I went and pestered my local parts department for the answer I would see if Forum members could point me in the right direction. I do not have experience of many models which is why I am asking the question.

Hoping someone can help. My thanks in advance.

Thanks for the excellent advice Pope!

Seriously though, there is method in my madness. I sell a handbrake extender for motorhomes based on FIAT, Citroen and Peugeot vehicles under the brand name of Rare Spares. I have been getting quite a number of enquiries from Transit based motorhome owners as to whether I can produce one for them. The viability of doing this will all depend on how many variations of grip have been fitted to the Transit range. Hence my question!

Your best bet would be to come to Transitmainia in August, some time yet, but it's the biggest gathering of transits each year. Doubt if anyone on here would know part numbers for each, as it isn't the sort of thing you would change.

Good luck with the quest, you may get lucky beforehand.

I thought that evening dress went well with socks and sandals, perhaps it was the fruit on my head that spoilt the look.

Mk 6 and 7 are the same, but different from Mk 5,4,3,2,1

Mk 5 is different

Mk 3, 4 are similar, don't know about 1,2

Put simply, no, they are not all the same!!!

Further to my query, it looks like the Mk6/Mk7 will be the one to go for. Has anyone seen what the handbrake lever grip is like on the new 2015 model (the one, in my opinion, with the ugly radiator grille) Is it the same as the Mk6/Mk7 or different again? Thanks in advance for any help.
