Reversing camera

Postby Parcel » Sat Jul 26, 2014 7:55 pm

Considering fitting a reversing camera to my MK3

Thought this camera
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/FORD-Transit- ... 2a4041f9d4

And this single DIN head unit
http://xtrons.co.uk/d302-3-inch-hd-digi ... 1-din.html

Has anyone else used either of these?

I've got one of those cameras, but not that head unit. Camera is quite simple to fit, it's just a straight swap for one of the numberplate lights.

Picture quality is fine for the purpose - obviously not broadcast quality, but fine for seeing behind you. Works well in all lighting conditions, day and night, that I've come across. As it's a wide angle lens, stuff does look further away than it actually is, and then it gets very close very quickly! But you get used to it in no time. Does what it says on the tin.

The only (very minor) niggle is that it overlays lines on the picture to supposedly show the edges of the van, but they don't line up as obviously it's not mounted on the centreline of the vehicle.

I'd say getting this (and the cheap £15 screen I bought) was the best 40 quid I've spent in a long, long time...

Sounds good
Where did you get your screen from?
On some cameras you can adjust the lines. Maybe that's only on set ups where the lines are put on by the screen/head unit ?
