Transit driver seat swop

Postby KevofCov » Fri Sep 05, 2014 9:20 am

Hi

Has anybody fitted a different drivers seat to their van to get more comfort? Currently getting some discomfort due to the high mileage I’m doing

Cheers Kevin

What van you got and how many miles has it got on it now :?: The main reason seats become uncomfortable and give your back grief is the seat base foam (tho appearing to be in good nick) actually loses its "nature" and as a result you sink into it further than you would in a new one causing more stress at the base of your spine :!:
I used to drive a taxi and was told by an Orthopedic surgeon to change my seat base foam (£36 for a VW T4) at the same mileage intervals as my Cambelt it was always noticeably more comfortable afterwards (did 360,000 in 5 years in that van)

removed the base from van and and lined up seat then a bit of a bracket made and welded on then just bolt on - word of caution - use manual seats as i got electric ones and to get them to work involved stripping all wires out and re wiring - but it all works well now

I fitted seats from a range rove vogue 2010 just had to weld a length of 20mm square onto the outside seat base then all bolted down, used ford seat belt clips, all seats have full electric adjustments very simple to just wire into a fused live, just need to work out the heated seats now but they are seriously comfortable
