transit 2.2 using engine oil why?

2.2 140 fwd using engine oil its puzzling me it don't smoke or leak to bad the timing cover is damp oily but it never leaves oily spots on the floor. ive done a service about 500/600 miles ago but its down to the first line on the stick any ideas? Thanks guys
