Spongy pedal after changing rear shoes

Postby Billysaph » Sun Oct 12, 2014 12:52 pm

Afternoon I'm a bit of a newbie here but am on several forums and know how valuable they can be when help is needed

Right here goes ive got an 04 plate rwd transit and the rear brakes started to make a noise under braking like somthing was catching in between the shoe and drum so thought might aswell change the shoes while I was taking the drum off

So took the drivers drum of and surely enough one of the shoes had a little bit broken of hence the noise so changed the shoes went for a quick drive all fine

Got to the pass side one and the whole shoe had come of the metal part good job I'd decided to change them put it all back together and again went for a quick drive this time the brake pedal feels spongy what would be the problem ??

Thanks in advance

I was told by a mechanic once after changing pads that a few firm stops will bed them in and stop them glazing... perhaps could apply to shoes as well?

Unless they are new shoes & drums then they take time to bed in. Depending on driving style it can be 200 or so miles as mentioned. Heavy braking will reduce that mileage ;)
