Water leak

Postby rowantk » Mon Oct 20, 2014 1:53 pm

Got water collecting on both foot steps at the front. Only noticed as water was dripping out. Both door seals are good, one is actually new as I needed to replace it. All the carpets are dry underneath and I don't see any water leaking on the doors inside. What are the other ways this could happen? Ive just sanded both steps and hammerited them. But after rain it collects and I don't really want foot baths in the van!

At a closer look. It appears the matting going over the passenger wheel arch is wet. Does this mean its finding itsway through somewhere under the dash? Drivers side matting is dry so it appears to be coming in straight down to the step. Could it be the black strips on either side of the windscreen? If so how'd you take them off with out breaking them?

EDIT: Just noticed this is for mk6/7. Below may not apply.

There are a few places it will come in.

Most likely it will come in from rusted under windscreen rubber, but can also come in from back of engine bay, from the guttering under bonnet/under plastics where windscreen wipers are and from behind the plastics of side mirrors (not ones on doors).

First thing to do is put some gaffer tape along top and sides of windscreen and see if water still comes in.
