Gearbox oil the same as Diff oil ???

Postby highviss » Tue Oct 28, 2014 12:28 pm

Hi, Im been trying to work out if Diff oil is the same as gearbox oil and can be used in a gearbox, from what Iv found so far the main difference is that diff oil holds a shear value to protect the surface of the drive teeth that slide more than glide over each other. I can recall something about the mk6 tranny box uses some of this shear friction to work properly, can anyone confirm this, and also with the FWD the diff is built into the box, so how is the lubrication managed to deal with this.

MT 75 in the box, EP80/90 in the diff, DON'T put the latter in the box
