MkII York engine - Oil everywhere

Postby focarglo » Mon Nov 03, 2014 1:06 am

Oil everywhere!
I couldn't describe bettere what's happening.
I'm in Germany right now and from the engine a LOT of oil was sprayed everywhere.
I'll attach some pictures.
The V belt is broken, but this has nothing to do (it broke after that the oil started to go everywhere)
Do you have any idea?

MkII York engine - after cleaning

Postby focarglo » Mon Nov 03, 2014 1:11 am

Hi,
here's how the engine looks like after cleaning and a 5 km run. Oil dorps everywhere!

It seems that the oil comes from the basement, on the right side of the engine (or left side if you look it from the open hood)
The engine seems to properly work, in terms of sound, power, ride smoothness.

What can I do?

Thanks,
Giulio

oil comes out from the axle of the pulley driven by the belt that's on the bottom, just under the alternator

undo the pulley, smack the back of it with a bar/hammer, pulley comes off and you can change the gasket/seal :)

If all else fails, the ADAC are very good. What's your home country?

OK you are from Italy! European ADAC is pretty cheap. Some years ago it was only 70 euros. Could be about 100 now, but well worth it. Could you join and then wait a day then report the fault? They will help you get spares....

adac is good, but do they work on such old engines?

to v 184, but does the oil go everywhere? I mean, how can there be so much oil? is it the vacuum pump? why the mechanic told me to change the oil pump?

On the late DI the vac pump is on the back of the altermator, and is lubricated by the engine's oil. I am pretty sure the same is true for the york. Theres an O ring on the drive that can get pinched or fail, can leak or throw oil out. The ADAC is fine with the Mk2. The French not so much.

ADAC requires to be resident in germany, so it's not possible.
on the york engine the vacuum pump is separated by the alternator, but I can't find any picture of it (and it seems there are no such pumps available on line)

We used to have ADAC cover from a UK address. Not for 3 years though. Yes the vac pump is on the block on the york and early Di. I meant the pump is using the engine oil in the same way on both engines. This explains the oil loss.

OK, so...
1 - undo the belt
2 - smash the pulley from back until it comes away
3 - I guess pulley comes with its axle and seal, right?
4 - I change the seal
5 - smash the pulley in its place

right?
are there blocks, or other parts I have to remove? Just smash???
