Windscreen setting and AirCon on - how to disconnect

My 2003 Tourneo with factory AirCon turns on the AC whenever I turn the air direction knob to Windscreen - and it's confirmed in the manual. Can I disconnect the two so the AC is only on when I want it by pushing in the button?? While still having warm air to the windscreen?

There's a micro switch on the heater box (driver's side (RHD)) that you can sort or simply back the control a smidge

As said, just turn the control back one notch and you wont get AC, but still get screen, nearly all new vehicles with ac work like that.

Why do you want to disconnect it? It makes the screen clear faster

The reason is that sometimes I don't like the air flow directed to the feet or face level - would just like to have it up top.

A notch away from "screen" does not direct air to feet
