Van grinds to a halt

Postby Middle East » Wed Dec 10, 2014 11:05 pm

Just took my my beloved Transit 2008 2.2 out tonight on a short message, developed a clicking noise coming from the engine, seemed to lose power and shudder a bit. I decided to return the 1.5 miles home, but it still shuddered and seemed to be trying to stall, then a few hundred yards from home it conked out, and wont restart. Turning the key the engine trys to start, but just dies. New battery and starter motor fitted a few weeks ago. No previous problems or indication this was about to happen.

Not sure, but full service carried out in June, assuming fuel filter was changed then

Got it towed to my local garage, breakdown recovery had the van condemmed, timing etc, fortune to get repaired, only a Ford dealer would be
able to sort it !!!!!!
My garage owner friend diagnosed and fixed it in 5 mins. A loose bolt at the fuel injector, meaning it had become slightly loose and was running on 2 cylinders. That explained perfectly why it chugged and then conked out when the revs dropped.

I do mantenance for a hire company they had an LT brake down Manchester way maybe further up the line RAC came out said they couldn't fix it they recovered it all the way back to Plymouth iv no idea what that cost them I fixed it in about 2 mins with 10p's worth of cable tie ! I'd never take the brakedown companys word for anything !
just follow the onscreen instructions and it's fairly idiot proof...trouble is, we keep producing better idiots

I hope you replaced the copper washers, they are destroyed by the movement of the injectors when the clamp fails
