Technical advice needed

Postby motorman116 » Thu Dec 18, 2014 5:23 pm

I have a 2007 (57 plate) Ford transit 2.4 I have a tow bar fitted with a bypass relay for the trailer board lights. My question is that I am looking at getting an Led light trailer board, will this cause problems with the indicators or do you think that I will need an inline flasher resistor as I'm not too sure if it will cause the indicators to flash fast :?: :?:

Cheers

I have also been thinking about fitting some high level led lights on the rear doors (Side, stop and indicator lights), Im not too sure if I will get away with it, and need your thoughts on this, I have a longwheel base Transit so the side repeaters are 12v 5w bulbs, do you think that I will get away with connecting the Led indicators straight into the indicator circuit, Im only thinking this as the Elb (Jumbo Transit) has 12v 21w side repeater lights :?: :?: :?:

I'd plug them in :-) if you have issues then add a resistor or keep the bulb in the circuit but hide away.
Keep an eye on polarity :-)
There are some resistor boxes you can buy.

Not sure why the relay would be affected in mk7 setup tho. :-)

Im not replacing the main indicator bulbs mate, I am looking into fitting high level Led lights on the rear doors (side, stop and indicators) and wiring them into the towbar socket, and also buying an Led trailer board. I have the towbar electric bypass relay fitted...

I know, the same applies tho :-)
As far as I'm concerned the bypass relay will trigger regardless of load, it should just be a high powered switch in effect.
And if it does have an issue then you need to add load to it which is simple to do these days, either connect a bulb or resistor.
Also if the leds have a large enough draw then it shouldn't make a difference should it.
Also i expect the company's making these items factor in these things in today's market.
Also it's nearly xmas so get onto it we want to see your van looking like Santa's sled 8)

I have these LED stop/tail/turn high level repeaters on my mk6 2.4 RWD. These are spliced into the rear light assemblies.

Used to be Britax halogen lamps, but they used to burn out the hazard switch after prolonged periods of use.

Use relay so you never loose your switch it's simple
Dust in switches makes resistance is better to use relay and then no problem for long
If need more help I'll guide you how to connect and where to buy relay
