Tired of going 60mph

Postby kneweby01 » Wed Jan 21, 2015 4:09 pm

Hi all, I've got a very loud hum after 60mph. At first I thought it was a wheel bearing but if I dip the clutch it stops. Apart from the noise it drives fine. it's a 2003 125 280 swb. Only bought it 4 months ago.
Could it be a single part that needs replacing rather than a whole clutch or gearbox?

That would rattle and bang, but yes it will be fitted

It's probably the gearbox dying

It may have a solid conversion, It vibrates "a lot" when accelerating at low revs, a lot more than my other tranny which was the same model.

Thanks.

That's bollocks.

Transits are legally allowed to do 70 mph on motorway, 60 mph on dual carriageway, and 50 mph on single carriageway.

It's not a new thing, this has been the law for decades, and Transits have been considered commercial vehicles since day one, probably because they are.

Your ignorance of the law is not an excuse if you get caught

National speed limits

Type of vehicle

Built-up areas mph (km/h)

Single carriageways mph (km/h)

Dual carriageways mph (km/h)

Motorways mph (km/h)

Cars and vehicles (including dual-purpose vehicles) 30 (48) 60 (96) 70 (112) 70 (112)
Car-derived vans up to 2 tonnes maximum laden weight 30 (48) 60 (96) 70 (112) 70 (112)
Cars towing caravans or trailers (including car-derived vans and motorcycles) 30 (48) 50 (80) 60 (96) 60 (96)
Motorhomes or motor caravans (not more than 3.05 tonnes maximum unladen weight) 30 (48) 60 (96) 70 (112) 70 (112)
Motorhomes or motor caravans (more than 3.05 tonnes maximum unladen weight) 30 (48) 50 (80) 60 (96) 70 (112)
Buses, coaches and minibuses (not more than 12 metres overall length) 30 (48) 50 (80) 60 (96) 70 (112)
Buses, coaches and minibuses (more than 12 metres overall length) 30 (48) 50 (80) 60 (96) 60 (96)
Goods vehicles (not more than 7.5 tonnes maximum laden weight) 30 (48) 50 (80) 60 (96) 70 (112)
60 (96) if articulated or towing a trailer
Goods vehicles (more than 7.5 tonnes maximum laden weight) 30 (48) 40 (64) 50 (80) 60 (96)

Vans and ‘car-derived’ vans

Most vans are under 7.5 tonnes laden (loaded) weight and must follow the speed limits for goods vehicles of the same weight. This includes Ford Transit vans.

‘Car-derived’ vans weigh no more than 2 tonnes when loaded and are goods vehicles based on car designs, such as a Ford Fiesta van or Vauxhall Astra van. Check your log book under ‘body type’ if you’re not sure.

Motorhomes

Motorhomes or motor caravans are classed as goods vehicles if they:
carry goods for exhibition and sale
are used as a workshop
are used for storage

Locally set speed limits

Local councils can set their own speed limits in certain areas, and these must be clearly signed.

For example:
20 mph zone in a built-up area near a school
50 mph (rather than 60 mph) limit on a stretch of road with sharp bends

Speed limiters

A speed limiter must be fitted on:
vehicles with more than 8 passenger seats, eg buses, minibuses, coaches, stretch limousines
goods vehicles with a maximum laden weight of more than 3.5 tonnes

Speed limiters are designed to reduce accidents. They limit the maximum speed of a vehicle by restricting the fuel supply to the engine. Having a speed limiter may mean that your vehicle can’t reach the speed limit.

The information you posted is wrong, you have been misinformed, by someone talking bollocks.
The post you made was bollocks.
I can't really sugar coat it.
I said 'that's bollocks' I didn't put it in capital letters, which means shouting, and I was standing at the time.
Also your spell checker appears to be broken.

"a transit is classed as a commercial vehicle and all commercial vehicles limited to 60 mph NICE OF THEM EO LET PEOPLE KNOW[/quote]"

only applies if vehicle(below 7.5 tonnes) is articulated or towing a trailer!

60 on duel only(70 on motorways) but be careful of a duel carrageway as must have a central resorvation(a crash barrier a grass section isnt a resorvation)
oh and if ur van is speed limited did u know u cant go on outside lane of a motorway..well u do now..
van speed limits been like this for over 20 years but many people just havent worried about the 10mph diffrence until now, even police didnt ever worry but as vans now will keep up with a lot of cars they cracking down on it now.. was a bad accident near here not long ago with a fully loaded van hit a broken down car killing all in the car so police did a purge on van speeding

A dual is defined by having a physical separation between opposing traffic flows so that includes a grass area

Paint and plastic cones do not count as a separation but generally everything else does
