Gutless 2002 T280 2.4 (90PS) - EGR?

Postby heybaz » Sat Jan 24, 2015 7:35 pm

Looking for some advice from anybody with experienced / knowledge of this engine please.

It's new to me with 120k on the clock, and while I can turn a spanner I'm not a mechanic or familiar with Transits!

I've put an STP Diesel treatment through her, changed the oil, oil and air filter but she still struggles up anything resembling a big hill. The indicator says that the diesel filter doesn't need changing and a well meaning (non-Transit owning, petrol car driving) mate has suggested the EGR valve could do with being blanked off.

So - thoughts please:
Should I put a new diesel filter in (am wary having read that it can be tough bleeding the fuel system afterwards)?
What is the consensus on EGR valve blanking - a cheap / quick job but is it going to do any harm & should I take a peek / clean inlet manifold (thus a bigger job)?
Would it be worth getting the injectors looked at and any idea what a local non-specialist garage might charge to do so garage (I live in the sticks & need to find a garage anyway!)

Appreciate any ideas / suggestions

Barry

Blanking the egr is a must and it will still pass the mot, chances are the manifold and engine ports will be coked up.
A genuine fuel filter is also must and all you do it brim the new filter with fresh diesel and start it up keeping the revs midway to prevent it cutting out.

Inlet manifold guide and you don't need to replace the manifold seals if yours are good condition

Yeah, fuel filter is nothing to worry about. Top it up with fresh diesel , keep tapping to get all the bubbles out, top up a bit more etc.... Then fit it.

As said, blank the egr off, but clean out the inlet manifold and inlets as well.

those indicators are not 100% reliable either..fit new gen filter and see if it improves..dont forget to fill it with fresh diesel before fitting.. read the bit about not bump starting as well in case u ever get a problem in future.... 90ps dont seem that powerful on hills a remap does wonders for them. but do inlet manifold and egr blank at same time
