Injector Question for X reg transit (Mk 5 Smiley)

Postby chrisandmark » Sun May 17, 2015 2:57 pm

Hi all

I have an X reg transit that today has lost power and blew black smoke out while I was driving.

Pretty sure it's one of the injectors but wondered if there was a way to check which injector has 'gone'? I don't want to take it to a garage and get it put on the computer so would like a method I can do at home myself easily?

It's a Mark 5 Smiley, 2.5 diesel.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Mark

This can be caused by a small bolt (10mm head) falling out of its threaded hole under the rocker cover, allowing engine oil to get burned in the cylinders.
You might need to fish around in the gunge under there to find the bolt and the hole

Is that reply for me or another thread as it doesn't seem relevant to the injector question?

Thanks

It only blew out the black smoke when I think the injector went. Now it's running lumpy like its on two or three cylinders but no black smoke (I got it home).

Don't want to move it to take to the garage and risk making the problem worse, which is why I'm asking for advice re: finding out what injector it is so I can do it at home on the driveway.

Thanks in advance.

Wouldnt have thought it would be a rocker shaft bolt if its black smoke, if its running lumpy "crack" off the injector pipes one at a time and should hear the engine note change or not if its that cylinder, i would check the egr/set up as well

Just started van give it a good revving, took it round block, power seems to have come back, had a service last week and have noticed the orange light on dash comes and goes, think it is the fuel filter light, could there be air in the system? But I thought these were self bleeding.and noticed a slight ticking or clicking on acceleration, have heard it come and go before but took no notice.any ideas very welcome and thanks to everyone out there for your help.
