Vacuum pump quick release disintegrated

Postby rodentnoir » Fri May 22, 2015 10:35 pm

Can anyone help me with this please.

The quick release sleeve thingie where the vacuum pipe connects to my pump fell to bits. Its the red plastic collar and sleeve that has gone brittle and disintegrated. Anyone know if the connector can be repaired/replaced without needing a new pump? I can't find a separate part number for it.

Can't you go the breakers and get 1?
Try www.eucatparts.com for part numbers (I'll be shocked if you get 1 tho :-()

If the condition of the pump is in any way suspect if consider buying a new 1(i know that's not the right attitude but that's all i have :-()

Maybe someone has a spare release? 8)

Thanks for the reply Loot

I looked on eucatparts - found the pump but it doesn't list the connector as a separate part. The pump is otherwise fine.

I wonder if anyone on here knows whether it's possible to remove the entire connector from the pump body, or better still whether it's possible to nick just the red bit from a duff pump :?: I haven't tried taking it apart yet because I don't want to destroy the connector and/or pump in the process. The 'O' ring seal is still fine, it's just the securing mechanism that's shot. If push comes to shove I'll try alternative ways of securing the pipe

But I think you're right, it might be a trip to the breakers.

Yep :-), as long as you can keep the pipe in i think it'll work, i have pneumatic push fit couplings in work of various sizes from 6, 8, 10 etc, they look similar to yours but blue, not sure if they are compatible tho, plus postage would probably be more than the breakers lol, you should pop down there and grab some other bits you like and grab a connector lol :-)

Well... at the moment it's back in minus the clip/retainer. It's a nice snug fit, the vacuum seal is good, and given it's a vacuum there seems no reason why it should come out?! We'll see how it goes.

I have a connector you can have, it's on the vac pump I replaced not long ago.....clip, ball, spring and "O"ring are still in good nick. I can post it to you if it helps.

Thought I'd just leave an update on here for anyone with the same issue in the future.

It's been without the securing ring thingie for a while now and I've had no problem. The seal is good, I have good vacuum. When there's a vacuum it's very difficult to pull the pipe out, and even once the vacuum is released I still have to give it a good tug to get it out. So it seems the securing part is redundant anyway :)

Just to be clear... the only thing broke/missing is the red plastic sleeve with the holding blades in it. The pipe, the hole, and the O ring are still fine.
