Postby cornishrob123 » Sun Jul 19, 2015 3:38 pm

Hi every one have the chance of a rotten camper on a 280 wb cab 1988 and is shot rust is bad .Can I cut a van back off or do i need a truck cab .If i cut a van back off and left floor then place camper part on the floor , is that ok or will it fold in half at first speed hump? Cheers all .

not really the van has the bottom half of the chassis rail welded to the van floor the chassis cabs have a top hat section welded on top to give it strength

some ambulances are actually made from vans with fibreglass backs but i would imagine some sort of calculation has been made for the added strength of the fibreglass body

basically i wouldnt reccomend it

No.
Some campers / motor homes are built on what's called a van floor, but it has different sills to provide strength.
