Surely it would just be thicker c clips? I don't like the idea of a washer going in and then the c clips because they sit in a groove don't they?

i had hoped so but it seems they are prop shims? they are solid , no holes in unless someone can tell me where they go as i cant see anyway they can possibly fit! and your right, c clips sit in a groove and they fit tight in the grooves!

there are 3 reworks depending on how much end float there is
you also need to measure the half shaft from the c clip to the end of the inner part of the shaft, this measurement has to be over 4mm, if its less you need 2 new shafts
Rework 1 is for 1.7mm or under, fit diff shim holder and that's it.
Rework 2 is for end float of 1.7mm to 3.5mm, where the inner part of the half shaft measurement is over 4mm, fit the large part of the diff shim holder and select the shim which will give you the maximum reduction in freeplay so between 1,7mm and 2.1mm use the 1.7mm shim and so forth, the shim slides into the diff shim holder between the centre pin of the diff and the end of the half shaft, that's why there are no holes in the shims as this is to stop the half shaft going inwards and the "c" clip falling off, fit the second part of the dsh to hold the shims in and refit cover
Rework 3, where the inner measurement of the half shaft is less than 4 mm, replace the half shafts, fit both parts of the diff shim holder and refit cover plate

so the plastic cage is basically a shim holder? and will the shims actually hit the diff pin in the middle then?

yes and yes, but the measured end float determines the shim thickness

Axle Oil (2.7 Ltr container) 1496946 1
SAE 75W-140 High performance rear axle oil WSL-M2C192-A
to get the whole 2.7 litres in you have to jack one side of the axle up
