Mk 7 intermittent air bag light...

Postby Mark0 » Mon Aug 10, 2015 6:28 pm

What looks like my air bag light intermittently appears. It happens after short distances. Not at all some days and other times after driving for a while. It always resets when the van is switched off.

Is this light related to anything else with the exception of the airbag. As the days it has been hot it has come on immediately with the ignition so im wonderiglng if it is effected by atmospherics.

I did have a brake light out and replaced the bulb. I have also installed a reversing camera during this time. Is this just a coincidence since i have done these things?

I have also checked all the fuses behind the passenger glove box.

While im here can anyone check if my van came with factory fitted fogs? There appears to be connectors in place and also the light switch appears capable of turning them on? Its an ex rac 330 if this makes any difference to spec?

As always thanks for any advice etc

Does the airbag light come on solidly, or does it flash :?:

If it flashes, there will be a two digit code

It comes on solid. There is no definitive time when it will come on though. Sometimes i can drive it and it wont come up. Sometimes as soon as its started although it only seems to be when its hot out but usually as im coming to a junction and changing down its bugging me at just how random it is.

I'm no expert, but it does sound like the air bag module is faulty :(
Anything else (faulty bags or wiring) would produce a fault code and make the light flash :?

+1 I'd look at the squib mate, if you can get the codes read it'll tell you if it is the airbag but you probably have a hairline crack in the squib :-(

You can get a cmax 1 for reasonable money, ideally you want to get codes read to make sure tho.
It'll say drivers airbag short to ground or open circuit.

It could be other faults relating to the srs system.

Admittedly i only have a bluetooth reading device but its saying no fault codes stored in ecu. I guess it would be best to take it to a garage to see if they pick anything up on a proper machine?

I clicked your ids map if that was the right thing to do and im inbetween martin and rjsroofing i think it was. I had a quantum map a couple of months back in chepstow so wonder if its worth taking it back there. Failing that is there anythin i can pick up that will read the codes at a reasonable price? Ive jus put a bit into it having carpet and electrics done so looking to keep for a while

Ok thanks. What year cmax airbag fits? I might aswell do the steering wheel aswell as thats a bit tatty. Do they not suffer from the same problem? As it will be 2nd hand purchase i would ideally only want to do it once

Thanks

http://m.ebay.co.uk/itm/FORD-FOCUS-TRAN ... nav=SEARCH

We get a couple of these a year probably, usually horn related, for 10 pounds it's worth trying it even without paying the 15-100 pounds diagnostics to tell you if it is that Lol.

These are not overly common to fail tbh bit make sure you read the installation instructions on the yellow sticker when fitting it.

Changing it isn't bad really the only bit that can piss you off is releasing the airbag clips.
