What (Exactly) is needed to Virginise a Bosch Fuel Pump?

Postby HomeBrewPower » Tue Aug 18, 2015 1:59 pm

Could someone help me out.

I have a Bosch 0470004012 Diesel Pump on it's way to my poorly transit. The pump is a reconditioned until that has been fitted to another transit which then failed it's MOT on rust!

Long story short, the pump is now been removed and fitted to my Transit. I have been told it won't be virginised.....

Questions:

1. What, who or where do I get the said pump virginised?
2. What special processes will my mechanic require to be informed of to fit said pump.
3. He has ordered a special tool for this job £70 something plus vat, what does said tool do?

Does anyone have any info they could put in some kind of order so I could understand better the whole process.

By the looks of vehicles these days I am so glad I did not pursue vehicle mechanics! All seems like smoke, mirrors, computermibobs and waffle to me! Old Mechanical Engines Yes, modern stuff pppppppppppffffffffftttttttttttt!!!!

A Bosch fuel injection centre can Virginise the pump, or it can be coded to the van using Ford IDS or other suitable diagnostic kit.

He has probably bought the tool that save having to remove the timing chain

Hi AKE,

The garage has a Snapon Verdict D7 kit, will this do the job?

To be honest, I don't know
The garage should know if they can code in a pump with it

You don't need to virginise the pump if you have a diagnostic machine at the garage, that can code it in

Hi Homebrewpower

Virginising a pump refers to the process of clearing / resetting the pumps ECU, this is done to clear the data from the last vehicle the pump was fitted to. We us a Bosch EPS815 test bench or a KTS, any Bosch Diesel Centre should be able to virginise a diesel pump for you.

Regarding the special tool, this helps on the fitting of the pump by separating the chain of the gear pulley, so that the bolts can be unlocked , locks the crank via the crank shaft sensor.

Kind Regards
Aaron

Thread revival time.

What needs doing when a virginised pump is fitted to a Mk6 TDDI?

How do you know it's connected and finished calibrating to the ECU?

Assume it's best done with a fully charged battery? Disconnect battery when fitting?

All this electrickery stuff worries me - I like to see things move/not move when I connect them up .....

There is a thread with the step by step progress on here somewhere Jim, but I'm blowed if I can find it

Fully charged, good battery is essential IIRC. You need to connect the pump, and leave it "X" many minutes (can't remember how many!) to have a coffee and a chat with the ECU, and then turn it off. After that it should be ready to start, and then run for another period of time.

We need confirmation from someone who has done it though, because it's a one trick pony, and after that you need IDS to code it in :P :)
