Mk1 transit v4 1977[formerly campervan].

Postby caldwelld » Tue Aug 25, 2015 10:53 pm

hi all, new to the forum. I am presently restoring a chassis/cab. I want to make it into a beavertail transporter so that I can take it and my vintage ford ferguson to local shows. Has anyone done this conversion before? What problems if any did you encounter. I will have to extend the chassis by about 3ft to take the tractor/ The tractor weighs 1.2 tons. Any help would be appreciated.

Very roughly, a single wheel SWB is good for a ton. A twin wheel is good for two ton, but on both you have to allow for the weight of the body. The gross on a twin wheeler is 3.5 ton, so the chassis, cab and body can only weight 1.5 ton to get your 2 ton payload. Remember you will have a certain amount of gear like tools and maybe a passenger, it all adds up.

Thanks for the info. Will restore chassis and cab and then get it weighed to see what I have got to play with. This is one of the last of the mki's 1977 but not registered until 1978. I do not intend to put a full bed on it ,just enough to take the tractor.

No. Mate top of the page there's an internal message system called Private Message, it's like email for the forum. Very top left next to 'Log out' and your name it tells you if you have messages '0 new messages'. As a new member I don't think you can send new messages but you can reply.
