How easy to change sliding door lock?

Postby glasgowdan » Tue Sep 29, 2015 3:42 pm

The side door lock on my 57 plate T300 has stopped working. A local garage have quoted £276 to fit a new one and stated this may not fix the problem and more money might be required. I'm tempted to spend £60 on a breakers part from ebay and change it myself so at least if it's not the issue then I've wasted £60 and not £276!

Can anyone suggest how easy a DIY job this is? It looks awkward to get the lock into place, but scratched knuckles aside, are there any significant issues getting the cables attached under tension, or the power plugs etc?

I'm the equivalent of your average joe, very little technical ability with a vehicle when it comes to repairs! Bog standard home DIY toolbox and so on.

Thanks

I can open it yes thanks, it's just not working off the key fob, horn peeps when I lock it and the side door doesn't lock (obv. I can lock it manually). Wiring all appears to be connected, so I'll grab a new lock from the bay and give that a go. Thanks.

No, I've sanded and lubed the contact plates and pins and they seem to be in good condition, wiring all connected ok to them too. I'll try some tinkering with the lock mechanism once I take it out but it'll have to be a few days now as I will be busy working with the van.

Excellent thanks! Bookmarked for now as my van lock decided to start working again last night, so I'll hang fire and see. I've bought a replacement from ebay anyway so it'll be on hand when it does go.
