Clutch driving me crazy

Postby VCPro » Sat Oct 03, 2015 3:58 pm

Right guys my clutch went, upon stripping it it was just thrust bearings that had over heated and split,so replaced just that.then couple days later clutch was making funny noise,so ordered a full clutch kit and had it fitted, just got it back today and within a couple miles no clutch? The old clutch was like new so I'm guessing there's a problem else where, any ideas where or what to check? Only thing that was a bit odd is the first thrust bearings is a lot wider depth than the one that came with the full clutch kit?

Well after some poking around it seems to be the clutch slave cylinder at fault,so just need to pick one up and hope that sorts it

You've got an Alligator in there?? I'd like to see that...

Was your old pushrod a different length than the new one??

Was thinking  but maybe completely wrong  would the clutch slave bar be a different length from dual mass to single? Seeing as I did the conversion and if so by how much?

There are 2 types of actuation system / clutch on earlier vans
luk or valeo.

One had a flat release bearing carrier and a raised pivot area on release arm,
Other had a rounded release bearing carrier and a flat release arm.

They both also have different slave cylinders, get these components mixed up,or use the wrong dual mass conversion kit and it will become a problem very quickly...

Well thought I'd update this yet again, other day the clutch went again! Yep clutch slave again, well this time I was out and had to use a dealer I was close to,well he gave me the part and it looked a little different to the others I'd been sold so when I had fitted it I tock the old one to the dealer I'd just got the other one from and as soon as he looked at it he laughed ? He had seen this type before and he said that they are faked parts and they size up and don't have any movement in the arm when they do,so armed with this I went back to the company I got the other 3 slaves from and managed to get a full refund back on them all,but best thing is I have a clutch than now works fully  so I can get on doing it up rather than doin the same repair again and again!
