Need Help for head gasket for my Mk2 (1980)

Postby Froggy » Fri Jun 01, 2007 2:55 pm

Hi everybody,
I wish to change my cylinder head gasket on a 2l 4 cylinders fuel engine my camper is a Transit of 1980, type VFL FS100 (sorry guys, a german one), and desperatly looking for technical manual (at least to know in witch order and torque screwing bolts !).
Does anybody know where I could find on-line docs ?
Thanks
A nice camper of the 80', we won't change it !

I assume the German Mk2 still used the 'Pinto' engine?

If so then the head torque settings are....(ASSUMING TORX BOLTS) Stage 1, 35-40nm, stage 2, 70-75nm, stage 3, tighten through another 90 degrees.

If SPLINED bolts are used then its... stage1, 40-55nm, stage2, 50-70, stage3, 73-83nm, stage four AFTER 15mins warm up, 95-115nm.

I would strongly suggest new stretch bolts!

Tightening sequence is...

FRONT<<<<<<<<
9 5 1 3 7
8 4 2 6 10

OK, I know I've got a Pinto (but don't know what it means !)...

And what about my other question, does anybody know where I could find a technical book for this kind of engine, to buy or download ?

thanks

The "Pinto" is just a name given to that engine, it doesn't really mean anything apart from it is good  (I think so anyway!)

It is found in Transits, Sierra, Cortina, Capri, Escort and also in wait for it.... Ice rink polishers and cherry pickers! Yes they are still being made

The Haynes workshop manual for the 1.6, 2.0 litre cortina should serve you well, have a look on ebay, there are loads of them around

Just a FYI, it's called the pinto because of its fitment in the early '70s US model Ford Pinto compact car, the infamous "barbeque that seats 4"
