Drum brakes adjuster fully wound out

Postby Wild » Tue Apr 19, 2016 5:58 am

Hi can any one help i have a Transit 350 crew cab 2.4D twin wheel RWD early 2006 mark 6 i think (its the one after the smily face). all started when i replace the wheel cylinders and was putting the brakes back together when i realised i could not wind the adjuster out far enough to gently rub the drum. I've tried generic new shoes and new drums but realised my old ones weren't worn that badly.
I have checked that i have the right adjuster though part numbers and i do.
Running a tape Measure across the fitted shoes and the adjuster wound right out i have 277mm, and the diameter of the new drums are 280mm
There's a good 20mm the adjuster can adjust which would bring the fitted shoes back down to 255/260mm.
All i can think is that there must be another size shoe out there for it , but i can't see any shoe sizes to choose from when search the shoe parts number :(

Are you saying that you only changed the wheel cylinders and had the problem? If that's the case then surely the cylinders are wrong...

The way I read it he's changed everything?

Do you still have the old stuff to referance from.

The adjuster will have no bearing on the cylinder if that was replaced and was wrong i think.
If the adjuster is new them it wants to be the same length as original both fully in and fully out.

The shoes will most likely have the same depth of wear material as original and if they are the correct depth then they will fit snuggly inside the drum with the same circumference i would think.

Did you actually eye up the old and new parts before fitting them?

Hi i found my problem today 8) , it was the shoes, the shoes that were on the truck originally were the wrong ones, hence the plenty of ware left on them which threw me, in hind site i should have compared them better right at the start but I've never come across this before, New shoes fits like a glove.
Thank you for all your help
