Mk7 injection query.

Postby drbit » Mon Aug 01, 2016 3:47 pm

I have a Mk7 2.2 85PS which had rough idle and occasionally went into limp mode which I cleared using Forscan on my iphone.
I have replaced the PRV and the SCV and done the Pump Learn, but when I try the Pilot learn it fails part way through saying that the required vehicle parameters can't be met. There are no faults showing at the time, however, the cylinder balance readings are all wildly different ranging from+1.7 on cylinder 2 to -1.1 on cylinder 4. Would this stop the pilot learn from completing and if so what is the likely cause? Not injectors I hope.
If I can get this sorted, would I still need a PCM update?
Thanks.
Dave.

Yes that sounds like injectors failing, presuming that your new scv and prv are genuine items and not some of the pattern rubbish that's available

The scv is a Denso which Vantuner seems to rate, the prv is not Denso but I am assured that it is a reliable item, they were not chosen on price.
I would like to think that the injectors are not a problem as I am a bit strapped for cash at the moment, but, hey ho.
I am just a bit surprised as I did a successful Pilot Learn before I changed the PRV / SCV with the same variation in cylinder balance, but I am not able to since replacing them,

My injector balance readings are;
1 = 0
2 = +1.7
3 = -.4
4 = -1.1
if you think I will need to replace them, what are my options? New or refurbished?

New aren't much more expensive, but you know they'll be right. Reconditioned can be a gamble, not all reconditioners are as good as they should be

I've got a set of 4 new injectors on their way. Is there anything special that I need to do or know before fitting them? I have Forscan so I can set the injector correction factors.

After setting correction factors run a pump learn and injector learn

I'd have bought these from Ford before new injectors tbh, yes denso but it seems that there are cheap imitations about :-(
See how the new injectors fair, you might need to put the old prv back on (if it isn't blown but ideally a new 1 if yours is old)
