power steering problems

Postby willchris2 » Sat Aug 13, 2016 4:34 pm

Hi
I have a mk5 transit based camper which has power steering and now i have a fault with it
I changed the fluid about 3 weeks ago and it was running fine.I went to use my camper a few days ago and noticed the steering was heavy and not working!
If i turn the steering from side to side and get full lock it makes the noise as if i am turning too far .. When i look into the resovoir there is fluid pumping into it.

Does anybody have any ideas?
thanks rik

Check your belt isn't slipping, the noise is usually because the pump can't keep up because the belt is too loose.

Have you tensioned the new belt, the PS pump mount is often siezed.
