Service warning light and fuel leak

Postby jazzthedog » Wed Oct 12, 2016 6:21 pm

Hello there,
I'm a bit stuck and was hoping someone could offer some advise please? I have a mk7 ford transit which had a full service just over a month ago. Since then I have had an eberspacher heater professionally fitted. Two days ago the spanner service light came on and today when I filled up at the end of fuelling diesel poured out from the fuel tank somewhere! It stopped fairly quickly and as far as I can see hasn't leaked anymore. Any advise would be greatly appreciated. I don't think it's related but the engine whines after starting up until I have covered a few miles, I took it to the local garage where the guy had a look, they couldn't find the source.
The van has sentimental value and I'm worried it could be a serious problem.
Many thanks
Dan

Looks like your Ebspacher wasn't fitted quite so professionally as they would have had you believe.

I'd be taking it back to them and complaining big time!

Thanks a lot for the reply, hopefully that isn't the case as the guy was really good, could there be another cause? Or should I get on the phone? Is it ok for me still to drive it?

You had it serviced and it was ok.

You had the fuel system tapped into for the heater, now it's not ok, and you are leaking fuel.

It could be entirely unrelated, but I'd definately get the heater installation checked over again as the main suspect.

Vent pipe from filler neck to tank is more than likely kaput common problem.Just reset service light ,foot on brake pedal other foot on throttle pedal turn on key wait till service light starts flashing turn key off and Bobs your uncle :)

Probarly not his fault  but he may fit the pipe for you its expensive for what it is £20 approx. If you ever rode a motorbike round a slippy roundabout you will see the reason for changing it

Yeah it's like friggin ice when wet on roonaboot, hopefully the guy fitted the proper fuel pipe fitting kit for the mk7 and not stuck the heater fuel pickup pipe through a hole in the breather pipe which I've seen done, I'd definitely get the heater guy to check first
