99/00 auto transit with immobiliser issue

Postby Horsegirl » Sun Nov 13, 2016 9:05 pm

Hi All! I'm desperate for some help..!! I have a V reg auto transit that has been converted to a horsebox. And she has had a bit of a melt down!! I have left her with my usual van fixing man, and he has basically said she needs to be scrapped! She was working fine, and then just died. Apparently she won't talk to the diagnostics thing but it says key fault, and the immobiliser has kicked in and blocked everything apart from the battery (if I turn the key, lights come on but nothing else) according to him there is no way of telling what has broken so basically half of her would need to be replaced, it might not work, and as she is an auto, parts are very hard to find.

Is there any hope? Is there anybody out there who can make her go again?? I'm in south lincs/north cambs.

I can't afford a whole new van at the moment, and can't drive a manual due to an old injury, so she is my independence. I would do anything to have her up and running again!

We could do with a bit more info to help you...
Mainly,is your van a 'turbo' ?

If your not sure, post the reg number or pm me it.
(Only real easy way to tell if your not sure,it will have an extra red warning light with a engine symbol on the dash below all the clocks)

Its an auto so will be 85PS TD epic.

You need to find someone who knows what they are doing or convert to manual gearbox with a bosch injection pump.

South lincs/north cambs too far for me really

Yes Bambi

Did the mechanic check the blink codes from the immobiliser LED in the dash?

*wishes my lack of knowledge didn't make me sound like a complete tit*

He said they were something to do with the key? He's a good all rounder rather than a transit guru though, and I'm an idiot when it comes to anything with wheels, so not sure. I just don't know where to start..

If its the immobiliser then the LED will blink rapidly then do a blink code.

Its also worth checking the 2 5A fuses in the top right of the fuse box and the 5A one in the auxillary fusebox by the battery in the engine bay

It's definitely blinking.. She's now been AWOL since July so I can't remember how quickly.. But constantly.

Does anybody know of anybody close enough to me they could recommend?

I'm hopefully moving in two weeks, and it would so much easier if I could do some of it myself.. Hiring vans I can drive is impossible.

She died in the middle of somebody else's yard (the shame) and was completely fine on the way there.. I doubt she was switched off for long enough for the engine to even cool down!
