INDICATORS NOT WORKING.

Postby mtbcol » Sat Dec 31, 2016 9:33 pm

Hello all

On locking my van this evening with the remote, I noticed the front, rear and side repeater indicators did not flash.

Tried the indicators using the stalk and all left indicators work but no right ones. Tried hazards and again, no right indicators working. You can hear a faint "squeek" coming from I assume may be a relay, so assume my fuse is o.k.? (havent looked tonight as its time for drinks! :D ) Also, need to find where the indicator fuses are :?

Any ideas anyone?

Cheers

Colin. :(

Check wiring loom to rear lamp as it sounds like a broken wire shorting out

Not had a chance to look yet, but did some searching on the forum and someone had a similar problem and it turned out to be the BCM, whatever that is? Where can I find it, and how can I test it?

I thought upgrading to a newer van would be less problems....... should have known better!

Thanks

Colin.

I would check wiring loom first mate as that doesn't cost anything to check

Hi N. You remembered "Rusty"! Yes, we got fed up with bashing our heads on the roof etc., so decided to spend too much on a mwb, m/roof ex British Gas one. Should be :D , but at the moment its :( Had a few problems that hopefully the garage will be sorting out in the next couple of weeks. Looks like he may have another to add to the list! Just want to get it all sorted out so I can start using it and not worrying what might go wrong next, which was one of the reasons for getting it!

Would a blown indicator lamp do this? if so and I replace the lamp do I really need to re programme it just for a blown lamp!

A shorted lamp will put off all lamps on one side, removing it will restore normal service
Do they all work with hazards?

I'd be checking and removing lamps first, also check trailer socket if fitted, they fill with muck and corrode and short

Hi ake

No, hazards only work on one side (left) as well. I think the "squeaking" was is coming from under the drivers seat? if that helps.

I'm going to start pulling out lamps from front and rear R/H indicators tonight. Does the side repeater (near the mirror) have a separate bulb or is it a sealed unit?

So just recap, if I pull out a faulty lamp It should cure the problem :?: and I assume replacing it with a working one will do the same :?:

Really hope it is going to be this simple :|

Thanks again, will let you all know tonight. New learning curve for new van

Side repeaters have a 5 watt Capless bulb (push in)

Yes if you have a shorted lamp, removing it should cure the prbolem

Vampirequeen has just had the same problem on a mk6, it was the rear bulb carrier at fault, worth checking. N

Thanks ake.

Found my old Haynes mk6 manual and removed the side repeater, still managed to seperate the lens from the body even though I was very careful :x

Anyway, just come in from the freezing cold wind, after removing each lamp (front, rear and side repeater) one at a time and trying each time, but still the same :(

I did notice, as I could see through the side window that at least with the side repeater, with the lamp in the holder when turning on the hazards the lamp lit very faintly with each flash. but dwindled to nothing after a flew "flashes", again accompanied by "sqeaking" in time with the "flashes" from somewhere I couldn't pin point from under the driver seat :?

I was thinking, this couldn't be a symptom of a u/s second battery?, but then can't see why the left indicators and hazards work?

I'm going to try and trace the cabling at the weekend, but not really my "thing" so not sure how its going to go. So if any one has any other simple things to try first, please speak up! :)

Thanks all

Colin. :(
