spare wheel carrier for 1995/6 duetto

Postby macvanessa » Sun Feb 12, 2017 9:09 pm

Hello

I have a 1995/6 Transit 2.5l Autosleeper conversion motorhome. The part of the wheel carrier the key fits into to wind it down broke off when/after a wheel had been changed when I was on the road and only found to be missing when my own garage tried to wind down the wheel to repair the tyre. They could only get at the spare wheel by cutting off the carrier so it now has to be replaced. A replacement was obtained from Ford but it turned out not to be the right one as I need one for alloy wheels (14"). The serial number for the WRONG carrier is 1122282, can anyone one tell me the number of the correct carrier, and where I might get one, as I understand Ford no longer supplies the one I need - but I may be wrong about this.

What was/is the difference :?: :?

My 14" alloys fitted in the same carrier that my standard OE steelies fitted in :|

It's a few months ago so I can't remember exactly. Repair man just said it didn't fit - he did try the one he'd got from Ford. I found two different serial numbers for SWCs on Ford parts last night, but now I can't get them back on the website.........needless to say

As far as I know there was never a carrier specific to alloys.

There were 2 types, one for 5 stud wheels (which has a single stud and a L shaped arm) and one for 6 stud wheels (2 studs and a T shaped arm)

That was always my understanding as well

I have however come across many people who can't work the carrier

Don't bank on it, I had a tyre fitter once, who wouldn't check my spare tyre on the Mk4 because he said the carriers "were always seized up" I did it myself in a few minutes, (that included finding the tools) :P
