Worn out clutch?

Postby Road_Dweller » Mon Feb 13, 2017 11:55 am

Hello Transainions,

When i give it to much power the engine revs wil go up fast without much speed increase.
I guess a worn out clutch plate? Anyway to check this without the risk of burning thru the last of my clutch?

If so,
Is replacing the clutch plate something easy to do on a old beast like mine?
Any chance its an easy fix? :o Like a small problem whit the clutch pedal or the clutch kabel auto adjuster?

Thanks!

I'd try lifting the clutche pedal and pulling up the slack on the cable to reset the adjustment first but it is more likely the clutch .its not to bad a job to do even on your back did my last on on the drive way at home just got it well jacked up

Thanks, i'l be trying that.

In the meantime here a foto of de adjuster, maybe someone can tell bij its position if there should be some clutch left or not. :-)
Honestly i doubt it because it seems to have given almost all the kabel it could give.
I can only feel about 5 theet on the topside of de adjuster.

Thanks again.

This maybe a stupid question.. :P

What if i would block/disable the adjuster so that cable goes completely slack instead of still being under some tension, would this possibly give me some more miles? Like 10, 100 maybe a 1000 miles?? :D Wishful thinking?

Tightening the cable will cause it to slip more Karl

Thanks for the reply's!

How long would it take a pro mechanic with a car lift to do it?
Do i have much chance (1992) on finding/creating more critical problems? It only has to last another 1000 miles or so..

Maybe this?.., someone? Thank you.

About two hours on a ramp I can not remember if i had to remove the exhaust front pipe off manifold and pulled it out of front box or just off manifold and slipped it off the rubbers and pushed to one side.if the exhaust is getting passed it's best it may not be re usable.as for how long clutch will last it depends on what weight you carry/hills and road conditions you drive in how carful you drive only you no how long you can make it last
