MK5 Cracked head problem, other issues

Postby Scrambler » Tue Feb 21, 2017 10:05 am

Hi everyone,

bought a transit supposedly blown up (cracked head apparently) the alternator was missing. I have since sourced an alternator for it but I really need to find a Haynes manual pdf format preferred or at least a parts catalogue where I can see a break down of the alternator and bolts etc

any help appreciated

Ahh! Thats exactly what I'm after, thanks for that. So the engines in these things are quite reliable? I've heard conflicting things. No pdf workshop manual some where?

My last mk5 had 98000 mls on it when I got it & 180000 mls on it when I sold it in that time it had oil and filter every 5000 mls fuel & air filter every 10000 mls cambelt kit at every 40000 mls.two water pumps the last pump and bent kit was put on for the new buyer the only outher parts I fitted to it where alternater/vac pump. I also blocked off the egr removed control rod and cleaned out the inlet manifold .the only bother I had on the road was when the alternator whent ana a misfire Whitch was only needed the injector pipe leak off mod doing .my van had the Bosch fuel pump but I think the epic pump can have a few more problems.the di is probably the best Diesel engine Ford ever did .

dang nabbit, I got a quirky alternator. Its from a 99 year and my truck is a 98 the alternator has 3 posts and 2 threaded nipples on the vac pump but my truck has a connector and one cable also I can only see one hose that fits on to the vac pump

Well yeah I think the tach runs off the alternator too? its getting confusing now. Theres a pipe just underneath where the alternator fixes to and theres a similar pipe coming off the vac pump on the back of the alt which I assume goes to the brake booster? so where does the pipe underneath the alt go to? Then there also these two nipples on the vac pump. can it be modified to work or am I best to get the right one? Heres some pictures
