If the experiences appearing on here are anything to go on then it appears the V4 isn't particularly fond of LPG, mainly due to most being knackered and intolerant of poor ignition quality / timing.
theyre also rather prone to backfiring which is going to be a bit more of an issue for a gas one.
If yours is pefect and setup absolutely bang on with good electronic ignition then go for it, otherwise do what most people are suggesting and get a Di, 5 speeded and some tubs of oil, it'll cost about the same and you'll dare to drive it without fear of it blowing up on the motorway!
Don't get me wrong I like my V4 but it is kanckered and I'd certainly not invest in new stuff to make me keep it V4 forever!

Hey wardy. It would seem that this idea (Although a good one) isn't worth it. An old engine isn't as efficient as a modern one. Diesel is better but you'll have to gain that awful bullnose front or chop the firewall/bulkhead to the cab. Your old engine will still do the same miles per gallon of gas as on petrol but the gas is cheaper at the moment. Someone says earlier on in this thread that gas is getting harder to get hold of, probably due to a change in popularity. You could improve MPG of your existing engine by rebuilding it but you'll be better off replacing it altogether. You could fit a nice Duratouqe engine like someone has done in their mk1 (can't remember who or the details).
the 2.5DI is an easily obtainable engine and the conversion can't be too difficult to do. Quite a few people here have done it.

ive fitted gas kits to an escort rs turbo and an old ford pinto and a renault espace 2ltr its piss easy and as long as you get the right tanks to fit it will be easy to do but you must get it cheaked for leaks or buy or rent a leak detecter the setting up is easy aswell and any gas kit will fit i done a lot of research into gas after being told i need the right kit but to be honest its not so much the gas kit itself its the gas inlet it can iver go on the carb or on the air fillter hose before it gets to the carb so you need the right size or adaptor to fit the carb very cheap on ebay anyway my kit cost just £125 and fitted and running in a day try ebay and local scrap yards as all my parts came from ebay and the scrappy on all three cars
cost of espace was £155 that included 3 tanks
escort rs turbo was £95 as only needed one tank
and sierra pinto was £125 with 2 tanks
all cars run better and for longer on gas
my advice is go for it no matter how many miles you do if your local to portsmouth ill come round at help fit it for you
all the best andy

I think I will give the lpg a go. As I want to stick with my v4 and not swop it for any thing else

I tryed runing a car on used cooking oil before and it worked well but it was so much hassle to keep getting it and filtering in. Plus you never know if I would get caught and get my van squished :(
