Spending a no doubt large amount of money converting a van that's about 15 years old strikes me as complete and utter madness

Most of the main stream conversions use a rwd van, and ditch the engine and gearbox.

But good luck!

I saw an electric motor tractor project, they just replaced the engine with a fork truck motor driving straight into the gearbox

Sounds very interesting, can't wait to see the finished product. Would be ideal if you're doing local work such as a local handyman/plumber/electrician etc. I'm surprised the Royal Mail hasn't adopted electric vans, very rarely do we do over 20 miles a day and the fiat doblos are a nightmare with the dpf cleaning all the time.

They had them in the 70/80's, scrapped them in the early 90's. Maybe they'll look at it again now that things have moved on.

Just posting to say I am considering doing this in Australia and adding solar panels. I am in no hurry and do not need to travel that far, living in a van, in a state that has lots of sun year round so can park up and wait for it get charged and or use charge station from time to time, plus maybe even a generator to get out of trouble maybe.

Thanks for the links etc and will be following this thread. I have heard about an eccentric around these parts that are passionate about EV conversions and has looked into conversions before at about 10k. I aim to get over to see this person to "flesh out" a plan sometime soon.

After I'm looking at 3-5k to fix my motors fuel pump and timing chain my thinking is that if it's happened once it'll happen again, I'd rather enjoy an EV even if it's a little more money to spend. Would just love to have one.

All the best with it and great to see.
