diff flange

Postby Boffin » Thu Mar 16, 2017 4:26 pm

I've just put a Di with Mt 75 gearbox in my mk1 the diff flange on the mk1 axle is the small one for a single piece prop, I had a mk2 with an mt75 and the flange on the axle is bigger and can bolt a later prop straight on to it, does anyone know if it is just a case of undoing the nut and swapping the flanges over?? If not I'll have to weld a different end on the prop.
Thanks.

It can be done but the bearing preload for the pinnon bearings is set by a calasbull sleeve so you can over do it what I have done before is to put a pop mark on the end of the pinion shaft and one one the nut in line and then when tightening line them up again it's not the correct way to do it but I have done it many times with no problems

Ok thanks I'll try that, so the flanges must be the same length? Thanks Dumper.

I think boffin is asking if the flange is a straightforward swap and not just how to adjust preload

When mk 1&2 wear on the road in a fleet of vans I was part of the maintenance team we fitted loads of new diffs from fords and most of the time they never came with the right flange so I have swooped them many tines and had no problems I also use this method to replace the seal as well
